A Worth $1.13 Billion Winning Mega Millions Ticket Was Sold at Monmouth County But Clerk Can’t Remember Who Bought it

The hunt for the $1.13 billion Mega Millions winner continues. TiYahna Bambaata, the clerk who sold the winning token at a Neptune Township ShopRite Liquor store, does not recall the lucky customer. Bambaata, a 27-year-old pre-med student working part-time at the store said to the NJ Lottery “It’s exciting,” and she’s thrilled someone from her hometown won.

Bambaata revealed that the winner opted for manually selected numbers rather than the quick-pick option. This detail adds little to identifying the winner, especially since New Jersey law allows lottery winners to remain anonymous. New Jersey law, enacted four years ago, allows lottery winners to remain anonymous, so the lucky ticket holder may never be publicly identified.

Bambaata told to the lottery officials “A few people were coming in and out last night, so I cannot remember who it was.” According to the new release this winning ticket marked the 24th Mega Millions win for New Jersey and the state’s sixth jackpot exceeding $1 billion. It also secured its place as the fifth-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.

James Carey Jr., executive director of the NJ Lottery, presented store owner Richard Saker with a $30,000 bonus check for selling the winning ticket. New Jersey Lottery Executive Director James A. Carey Jr. offered important advice to the winner: “If you are the winner, I encourage you right now, sign the back of the ticket, take a picture of it, make a copy of it, and put it in a safe place.”
